ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project is a design build delivery of two child development centers on the Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The two centers are located on two different areas of the base described as Midway Park Place and Tarawa Terrace. Building Information Modeling and Integrated Project Delivery was used throughout the design process.

The facilities were designed to be in compliance with UFC 4-740-14 and to integrate with the Georgian architecture of Camp Lejeune. They include child activity rooms adequate to accommodate 305 children each. In addition they contain kitchen and laundry areas, offices, toilets, storage spaces, and dedicated mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications rooms.

Each facility was designed with sustainable strategies and features to minimize the energy consumption of the facilities, conserve resources, minimize adverse effects to the environment, and improve occupant productivity, health, and comfort to reduce the total cost of ownership of the project using a whole building, life-cycle approach. The child activity rooms are naturally day lit providing comfortable, nurturing environments for the children.

Both facilities are LEED Gold certified.

Both facilities are LEED Gold certified.
