ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Luckett & Farley worked with the Brown-Forman team to develop a campus of palletized whiskey aging barrel warehouses for their premium bourbon whiskey brand Woodford Reserve near the distillery in pristine surroundings of rolling meadows and horse farms. The project involved the design of four warehouses and a barrel transfer building. Each warehouse is 91,000 SF with clear height to store pallets seven high.

The construction of each warehouse consisted of insulated precast concrete panels with stone face appearance to immolate the existing distillery and the barrel warehouse structures, steel structural framing, metallic roof, and large open space, smooth concrete floors. The design included a sophisticated heating and ventilating system to provide controlled, multiple temperature variations to aid the aging of the bourbon whiskey.

The electrical systems were designed for Class 1 Div. 2 classification. The campus includes a fiber optic network and a modern security camera system. A one million gallon water tank and fire pump system were provided for fire suppression and an underground disposal network was designed to drain the fire suppression water and whiskey without getting out in the open environment and into the natural waterways.

The site work design involved site layout and grading for over 60 acres, bringing all utilities to the site and to each building, industrial and sanitary waste disposal, pavements, and an underground insulated alcohol line from the warehouse site to the distillery site with a pipe trestle across the creek.
