ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Jefferson Memorial Forest Tom Wallace Lake Recreation Area, comprises approximately 27 acres of Louisville’s Jefferson Memorial Forest, which holds the distinction of being the largest municipal urban forest in the United States. Luckett & Farley oversaw the development of a master plan for the Tom Wallace Lake Recreation Area. Additionally, we provided architecture, engineering, and landscape architecture services as they related to the development of the master plan.

With a large lake being the main feature of the site, design details included accessible walkways to the lake frontage, a fishing pier, a natural play area, improved parking and circulation, new restroom buildings, and picnic shelters, as well as connections to numerous trail systems. The project also involved a technical feasibility study to analyze project phasing options and associated estimates of probable cost.

Stakeholder input was valued in the design process through an open public meeting in which a collaborative dialogue was created with the design team and the local community.

Luckett & Farley partnered with Human Nature for landscape architecture and master planning assistance.
