ABOUT THIS PROJECT

A 140-year-old distillery in the heart of Bluegrass Country was completely renovated and rejuvenated for a new premium bourbon whiskey. The historic buildings were restored to preserve their exterior appearance; however, the interiors were completely revamped for a modern distillery including copper kettles from Scotland. Luckett & Farley provided complete architectural and engineering services for this monumental project.

The new systems included:
  • Water treatment
  • Chilled water system
  • Steam and boiler system
  • Sanitary and process waste sewer system
  • Fire pump and fire protection system
  • Electrical services and power distribution system, motor control systems, switch gear, etc.

The barrel storage warehouses were renovated and a new bottling process was installed. The lake was dredged and a pumping and piping system was installed to send water upstream to keep the stream flowing in dry weather.

A new visitor’s center was designed to resemble Kentucky farm house architecture, utilizing wood siding, metal roofing, Kentucky limestone, and wide, expansive porches and dormers. The detailing of the exterior and interior has a “Shaker” flavor.

The 9,960 SF facility includes a large, vaulted room featuring interesting displays and exhibits describing how Kentucky bourbon whiskey is made, a similarly vaulted gift shop, a viewing room, and administrative space for the tour, gift shop operations, and support areas.
