Mechanical Engineering

Our mechanical engineers utilize Building Information Modeling to design complete heating and cooling systems. In doing so, they are also able to conduct energy modeling to analyze the most efficient options. Our approach allows us to make decisions early in the design process to help architects and owners, collaborate with all stakeholders to get consensus on the best system.

Data Centers are Energy Hogs

Here's a no-brainer data center cooling solution

Data Centers are energy hogs. A recent project had computer racks which consumed 35 kw for each rack. When the computer consumes 35 kw of energy, all of it becomes heat (think about it, nothing goes back out on the wires). That’s 10 tons of cooling for a rack about the size of your desk. [more...]

What is Code?

Understanding Mechanical and Energy Performance Code

So how do owners guarantee that the design firm they hired provides designs for buildings and building systems that meet the minimum requirements defined by law?  It starts with code compliance. The International Mechanical Code (IMC) has “code” in the title, so it’s obviously a code, correct? Not quite. Unless the IMC has been adopted [more...]
